Opening a restaurant can be daunting. Usually the first step is to look at one's own finances to see if they can afford to open a restaurant, then creating a business plan and finding a location that can accommodate that concept. Once we get through a rigorous process where landlords vet the tenant and accepts an offer, we get the licenses and permits, staff, inventory, and pray for a massive opening. It doesn't stop there. We need to constantly improve and stay up to date with trends the market. We eventually build a brand and reputation and see business moving in a great pace.
But then, a pandemic hits and wipes out all the success of years and years of hard work. Are we failures? Nope. We are just victims of an unaccepted natural situation. We would have survived had it not been for the mandated closures and rules that only affect us small businesses.
With everything going on, we contemplate if we should just call it quits. The only truth here is that if takes years and years of hard work to create a real business, but one event can force us to shatter our business and close the doors.
The concept of perception is key to survival here. While our own eyes may see how great we were performing prior to the pandemic and how bad things have become, can someone else see this differently?
